An alternate keyboard for tablets called Kalq, developed by User interface experts, which is mainly designed for optimal thumb-typing. The traditional Qwerty layout is great for not getting typewriter keys stuck together, it’s not the optimal arrangement for typing on a computer
The assumption takes by kalq that you’re holding a tablet with two hands and only your thumbs are available to type with. Letters are then positioned in the most optimal location for alternate thumb-typing with minimal travel distance.
The Kalq keyboard is split into two halves – both featuring a spacebar. The right thumb does 54 percent of the work, and the left thumb does 46 percent. The idea is that while one thumb is pressing, the other can be moving on to the next letter.
It supposedly takes around eight hours of practice to get to the point when typing with Kalq is faster than Qwerty, but after 13 to 19 hours of practice, users should be able to type on average 34 percent faster using Kalq.
